Idea Journal Assignment #2: Imaginative Work

Picture

Picture
  • For this idea journal assignment, you will choose one of the four options in blue below, and then create a full-page (edge-to-edge) artwork in your idea journal in any coloured media based on that prompt. Please write your prompt on the back of the page.
  • Your drawing must have a composition with more than one focal area or "area of emphasis" (no bullseye compositions please)! Some things in your drawing should "fall off the edge" of the page. In order to do this, you could either ZOOM IN on your subject, or FILL THE FRAME with interesting visual information.
  • You may use photographs you have taken, or photographs from the internet to help you draw if you choose to make your images look realistic - but you cannot use another artist's work, or use an artwork to draw from. Any photos you use for reference must be printed, and taped or glued to the back of your artwork.
  • The artwork must be DEVELOPED - colours and values should be developed and intentional. This will take time to do! (Plan ahead - don't try to pull this off last minute!)
  • You will be marked on creativity (how you used the prompt to inspire your idea, how you connected the prompt to your life) and on technical skill (how developed your work is, how carefully you are using the particular media you have chosen).
Here are your choices!
  1. Make a drawing that is totally truthful.
  2. Make a drawing that lies all over the place.
  3. Make a drawing that is completely and utterly impossible.
  4. Fix a story that you don’t like, or reflect/improve upon one you do.
