Final Project Choices: 
Each option should take 4 - 5 classes (5 hours or more) to fully develop.


DRAW and/or PAINT


A

COVID COMICS
Create a 8-12 panel comic about a day in your life at home during the school closure for remote learning. This can be realistic (an actual comic-journal of the events you experience every day) OR completely fictional (stories you invent about your time during COVID). Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

B

ILLUSTRATED TEXT
Find a great quote, song lyric or phrase and use your design skills to make it into a work of art. Manipulate the words and letters using different types of handwriting, printing, or even Photoshop (or any digital platform). Consider using a variety of drawing styles and techniques to accompany your text. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

SUPERHERO
Create a contemporary superhero. What do we need a superhero to help us with? What could this superhero be dedicated to doing? Eradicating zits forevermore? Performing household chores? Or solving huge social issues like racism, homophobia, or homelessness? Who would be their arch-enemy, or what would be their greatest challenge? What would their strengths and weaknesses be? What would their costume look like? Design your original superhero - and include their costume and their "alter ego" - what they look like when they are not a superhero (think Batman and Bruce Wayne, or Superman and Clark Kent). Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

D

FOUND SENTENCE
Use a sentence cut out from a magazine or found in a book. Find it randomly - turn to page 76 and read the third sentence. The sentence does NOT need to be a part of the artwork.  Use this sentence as inspiration - as a starting point - for a drawing. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

​COVER PIECE
Choose one: Create a poster for an imaginary event that never happened OR Invent a new band and design a cover for their first album or single OR Create a book cover for a book that does not yet exist. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

F

TITLE IT
Make a small drawing. Show this drawing to a variety of friends / family members and ask them to come up with a caption (words to accompany your drawing / a title). You will need at least five. Write these captions out on small pieces of paper (like labels) and then photograph them each with that drawing. Send these photos in to me.

MY IDEAL BEDROOM / HOUSE / ISLAND
In your sketchbook design an interior space that’s perfect for you. If you could have the "perfect" bedroom, or the "perfect" house for you, or live on the "perfect" island what would it look like?  Be creative - this doesn't have to be something actually possible or achievable! Would your room have a floating chair that would bring you from one area to another? Would your perfect house be filled with a pile of pupplies? Would your island be made of chocolate bars with marshmallow trees? Pick "bedroom", "house" or "island" and design it in your sketchbook in any medium. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

Make me a proposal!  Find an artist whose work inspires you to make art and give yourself a challenging assignment to complete. 

EXPERIMENT and/or PLAY

SITTING IN SILENCE
Sit in silence with your eyes closed for as long as you can bear. Try to just be still and relaxed and let your thoughts come and go as you sit. Record what you hear and/or think about. Take a few hours to develop a collage/drawing/painting while thinking about your experience. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

SHADOW ILLUSTRATIONS 
Create your own original art using the shadow of an everyday object. For this assignment you will need a light source (a lamp, the sun, the flashlight on your phone) and objects from your house. Use the light source to create a shadow, and draw using the shadow as your inspiration. Create a minimum of five shadow drawings in your own idea journal. Watch this link to help you get stated: Artist Creates Art From Shadows Of Everyday Objects - YouTube . Make sure to come up with your own ideas. Photograph your work and post it on your Website under the IDEA JOURNAL TAB or send it to me on Edsby. If your piece has movement, post the video to your website, or send it to me on Edsby.

RECREATE AN ARTWORK
On your own or with family members use the things you have around the house to re-create a famous artwork. (You can find art images from the collections of major galleries like the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc.) Get someone else to take the photo. Examples are below. Photograph your work and send a both your work and a photo of the original artwork to me on Edsby. Some examples are below!

FORT (RICHMOND)
Make your own couch or pillow or sheet fort and stay in it for at least an hour. Get someone to take photos of your fort (ideally with you in it). Write about the experience or record a short (less than 2 minutes) video to tell me what your experience was like.

ALTERNATE YOU
Develop an alternate persona for yourself based on a personal experience or favorite story. They can be any gender, and look however you want - but they should NOT look like YOU. Pick a day, or a few hours, to dress up very differently than you normally do, and perform this new YOU. Afterward, reflect on what the experience taught you or led you to consider. Photograph yourself and send the photo and your written reflection (one paragraph is good) to me on Edsby.

ANCESTOR'S SKILLS
What can your older relatives do that you don't know how to do? Embroider? Bead? Carve wood? Knit? Adopt a skill or craft from a family member or ancestor and use it to make a work of art. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

A DIFFERENT STORY
Create a work of art (e.g., a story, video, journal entry or sculpture) about an experience from your childhood that you recall very differently from the recollections of the adults in your life. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

MISUNDERSTOOD
Select an object, idea, or element from popular culture that you think is important but misunderstood or not taken seriously. Use it as inspiration for a work of art that reflects its significance. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

CURATED COLLECTION
Select 5 to 10 objects in or around your home that represent your identity. Imagine that you are an archaeologist who has just unearthed these objects. Create a display that includes interpretive labels, illustrations, and related historical information. Photograph your display. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.

CONFLICT
Think about an individual who evokes strong conflicts in your life. Create a work of art expressing that conflict. For example, one student creared an artwork about her relationship with her stepfather, who was at the same time loving, attentive, demanding and betraying. Photograph your work and send it to me on Edsby.
