Your story can be exaggerated, elaborated upon, minimized, distorted or blown way out of proportion. You can use any medium you want - choose the best medium to suit the telling of your story. In class we have learned about a handful of great tips and tricks comic artists use to tell stories, including:
Creating establishing shots in the early storyline, to let our viewers know where the story happens. This shot "establishes the setting" by showing an overview of the location of the story.
Developing character sketches to plan what the character(s) might look like in different parts of the story / different panels.
Using different "shot styles" to tell our stories - like close-ups to show emotion, full shots to show action, or insert shots to highlight objects or small details in the story.
Using dialogue to support (not tell) the story - being careful to SHOW the characters experiencing the story, rather than TELLING the story through words only.
